My Creed , 7yo gelding by Beau Genius, started for the forty-first time on 6/28, coming away with a third place finish in the Alamedan Handicap at Pleasanton. It was the ninth stakes race in which the durable veteran had either won or placed, including a Grade 3 win in the Berkeley Stakes. He has a career bankroll of $351K, with over $100K earned last year at the age of six & another $29K this year at seven, & boasts a line of 8-4-11 in his 41 career starts.

Snowdrop , 5yo mare by Beau Genius , took second in the Fischer Memorial Handicap at Sunray Park on 6/22, pushing her earnings closer to $200K from a twenty-four race career in which she has never raced for a tag. The talented mare has five wins, three seconds & six third place finishes, & was bred, born & raised at BVF before going through the Barretts sales ring as a 2yo. She is one of seventy-six stakes horses by her sire.

Beaulena , 8yo mare by Beau Genius, made it eight stakes placings in a row when she finished second in the Washington State Legislators Handicap at Emerald Downs on 6/8 coming from far off the pace to get up for the placing. The race marked her 29 th start in a lengthy career in which she has six wins with eight seconds & seven thirds. The Legislators was her twelfth consecutive stakes appearance, a stretch during which she's won two, with two seconds & five thirds, with earnings exceeding $174K.

Beau Dare , 5yo mare by Military out of the Beau Genius mare Gen Corp Purposes, increased her lifetime earnings to over $354K as she won the $60,000 Candy Eclair Stakes at Monmouth Park by a neck. This stakes race on 6/7 was her 23 rd career start, & her third stakes win. Previously this year, she won the Correction H. at Aqueduct.

Silver Stetson Man , 4yo colt by Silver Charm out of the Beau Genius mare Ribbons, won an AOC 6f race at Hollywood Park on 6/5 coming from off the pace to rally for the win over four other 3yo's & up.

Bewitching Gem , 3yo filly by David Copperfield out of the Beau Genius mare Mesmerize, broke her maiden on 6/5 at Hollywood Park going 6f gate-to-wire over six other F&M 3yo & up.

May 2008

Synnin and Grinnin , 4yo Cal-bred filly by Beau Genius , won her second straight outing, this one coming on 5/24 in a 6f race at Hollywood Park. The winning miss, who was the sale topping filly at the '05 BAROCT Yearling Sale, is owned by LA Dodgers pitcher & BVF client Brad Penny & is conditioned by Howard Zucker, also a BVF client.

Beau's Rose , 3yo colt by Beau Genius , never far off the pace, broke his maiden in a 4½f race for 3yo's at Evangeline Downs on 5/7 in his fourth start.

Snowdrop , 5yo mare Cal-bred by Beau Genius, increased her lifetime earnings to over $146K on 5/15 at Sunray Park as she drew off & held sway to collect her third win to go with eight other on-the-board finishes. Then on 5/31 she notched a second place finish in the Fern Sawyer Handicap at Ruidoso Downs. Her breeders are long-time BVF clients Dave & Mary Ann Sawyer.

Beaulena , 8yo mare by Beau Genius, made it seven stakes places in a row when she finished second in the Hastings Park Handicap at Emerald Downs on 5/18. The race marked her 28 th start in a lengthy career in which she's finished off the board only four times & only once in eighteen starts since late 2004. The hard-knocking race mare now has earnings exceeding $164K.

My Creed , 7yo gelding by Beau Genius , increased his lifetime earnings to over $345K as he earned a second place finish in his 40 th career start, this one on 5/21 at Golden Gate Fields in an AOC race going a mile & 1/16 th on the all weather track. In addition to this runner-up finish, he also has eight wins & ten third place finishes in addition to three other seconds.

Carrie With a C , 5yo Cal-bred mare by Beau Genius , won her ninth lifetime race from 21 starts as she prevailed over five challengers in a 6f AOC race at Golden Gate Fields on 5/24. With lifetime earnings exceeding $177K, she also has six second place finishes & one third place finish to her credit.

Leonides , 3yo gelding by Richter Scale out of the Beau Genius mare North East Belle, earned a stakes placing in the Gr3-Lone Star Derby at Lone Star Park on 5/10, finishing second by only a half-length to classics contender El Gato Malo.

Ashley's Kitty , 3yo filly by Tale of the Cat out of Pretty ‘n Smart, a daughter of Beau Genius, won the Desert Stormer Stakes on 5/17 at Hollywood Park, besting a field of five other fillies & mares, including stakes winner & pre-race favorite, Dearest Trickski.

April 2008

Crystal Silence , 3yo Cal-Bred filly by Beau Genius , broke her maiden for owner/breeder/trainer Brian Pitnick at Bay Meadows on 4/11. Making her fourth career start, the winner was bred at BVF & is out of winning Phone Trick mare Graceful Stepper.

R Beau Genes , 5yo Cal-Bred mare by Beau Genius , broke the $100K mark when she won an AOC race at Stampede Park on 4/25. The win was her sixth lifetime; she has hit the board on twelve other occasions.

Synnin and Grinnin , 4yo filly by Beau Genius , easily put away a full field of maidens to notch her first victory in a 6f race on 4/19 at Santa Anita. Trained by client Howard Zucker & owned by client & LA Dodgers pitcher Brad Penny, the former Barretts sale grad ($105K yrl OCT) led throughout & was much the best under a strong hand ride.

One Chin Again , 3yo gelding by Beau Genius , earned a stakes placing by finishing third in the $250K Cal National Snow Chief Stakes on 4/27, Gold Rush Day at Hollywood Park on Gold Rush Day.

Feb/Mar 2008

Beau Chant, 3yo filly by Beau Genius, broke her maiden at Santa Anita on 3/28. The winner’s dam is the stakes placed multiple winning BVF mare Song of Summer. Beau Chant, sold in the’06 Oct Preferred Yearling Sale for $35K, was foaled, raised & trained at BVF. Song of Summer recently foaled a Deputy Commander filly & has been bred to Sea of Secrets. She also is the dam of a yearling colt by Northern Afleet.

La Beau Em, 4yo filly by Beau Genius, earned her second lifetime victory on 3/29 at Bay Meadows. Out of the stakes winning mare Eminent, the winner was also foaled, raised & trained at BVF. Her record now stands at 2-3-2 for earnings over $30K. She & her dam are owned by long-time clients Barry & Vickie Rubin. Eminent is currently in foal to Sea of Secrets.

Viva La Beau, 3yo Cal-Bred filly by Beau Genius, earned breeder awards for long-time BVF clients Dave & Mary Ann Sawyer as she broke her maiden at Bay Meadows on 3/16. She was foaled, raised, trained & sales prepped at the Farm prior to selling at the Barretts January 2006 Mixed Sale.

Partywithlarryz, 4yo gelding by Beau Genius, broke his maiden in a MSW for Cal-breds on 2/15 at Santa Anita.

Natural Genius, a stakes-placed daughter of Beau Genius, is the dam of a 2yo colt who knocked down a bid of $150K in the Barretts March Select 2yo Sale. The colt, purchased by J.T. Thomason, is a full brother to multiple winner Salty Genius ($171K).

Carrie With a C, 5yo mare by Beau Genius, finished off this reporting period by extending her record to 8 wins from 19 starts as she took an ALW race at Bay Meadows on 3/31. She now has earnings approaching the $150K mark.

January 2008

CARRIE WITH A C,(’03 dkb/br filly o/o Nevercomesagain, by Ascot Knight), breaking alertly before settling off the pacesetter, collared that one late & won driving to follow up her victory last month with yet another, this one in a 6f sprint for F&M 4yo & up on 1/4 at Golden Gate Fields.  THE GREAT BEAUDINI, ('04 chestnut gelding o/o Heart's Magic, by Mt. Livermore), lodged his bid from the final turn & opened a two length margin at the wire to win a one mile race over a muddy surface at Turf Paradise on 12/3 besting six rivals. Owner: Joan Reid. Breeder: Autumn Ridge in CA.

CARRIE WITH A C, ('03 dkb/br filly o/o Nevercomesagain, by Ascot Knight), ran like the favorite should as she broke cleanly, raced unhurried but within striking distance early, came two wide into the lane, then rallied steadily despite being floated out in the lane by the runner up to win her sixth lifetime race from fifteen starts on 12/26 at Golden Gate Fields. BEAU'S TOWN, ('98 chestnut gelding o/o Frio Town, by Kerosene), always a winner in our hearts, has been retired after going out a winner in the King Cotton Stakes last month while becoming his sire's leading money earner. The nine-time stakes winner, who for years ranked as one of the game's best sprinters, especially in the Midwest, did not come out of a recent work to his trainer's satisfaction, so the decision was made by owner Dave Hulkewicz to retire the game gelding. Beau's Town's greatest career win came in the Grade 2 Bing Crosby Breeders' Cup at Del Mar in 2003, but he was also partial to the Oaklawn Park racetrack where he won four stakes, including the Grade 3 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap in 2003. In retirement, Beau's Town will make his home at trainer Cole Norman's Louisiana farm, where he will be treated daily to carrots and peppermints by Norman's daughter, Cheyenne, who already had a stall ready for Beau's Town prior to his retirement. FEBRUARY 2006

BEAU'S TOWN, ('98 chestnut gelding o/o Frio Town, by Kerosene) returned to the scene of one of his early career victories as he held off a late challenge by the runner up to score a head victory in the $50K King Cotton Stakes on 2/4 at Oaklawn Park. The multiple graded stakes winner and one of the most popular offspring of Beau Genius won the 2003 running of the race and thus became the first horse to win the King Cotton twice in over forty years. Beau's Town had previously run huge off a 14 month layoff to finish second by a neck in the $250,000 Duncan F. Kenner Breeders' Cup at the Fair Grounds meet at Louisiana Downs on 1/14 while earning a 96 Beyer. The King Cotton was the 8-year-old gelding's 13th career victory and increased his lifetime earnings to $697,850, displacing Gentleman Beau ($669,057) as Beau Genius's leading earner. Beau's Town is one of an amazing 73 stakes horses sired by millionaire Beau Genius. "If all goes right, Beau may even make the Breeders' Cup Sprint," said his exited owner, Dave Hulkewicz. It was the multiple stakes winner's first win since posting a victory in his first start of 2004. JOHNNY MCARTHY ('02 chestnut gelding o/o Saint in a Dress, by Emperdori) won his third race in a row on 1/25 at Bay Meadows, staging a workmanlike stretch run to prevail by two lengths at a mile and one sixteenth . Until last December 1, the 4yo Cal-bred had been winless in eight starts, but after winning that day - in a dead heat - he hasn't lost, winning by a head on December 16 and by two lengths in this race. He won the first two at Golden Gate Fields. Unplaced in his first six starts, the gelding scented the winners' circle by running second and then third in the two races before he finally broke through. JOHNNY MCARTHY ('02 chestnut gelding o/o Saint in a Dress, by Emperdori) became the eighth winner from his sire's first California crop on 12/1 at Golden Gate Fields. After settling into mid-pack in the early going in the one-mile maiden race, he raced up behind the leaders in the stretch but ran into a wall of horses. Jockey Miguel Perez swung him to the outside at the furlong pole and with clear running room at last, he got up to finish first. But, he had to share the honor with another late closer, the race favorite, and the race was declared a dead heat! The shared win was the gelding's reward for a steady move upward since shipping to Golden Gate Fields from Bay Meadows. Unplaced in his first six starts at 2 and 3, he was second and third in his two starts at the Albany track before breaking his maiden in the 12/1 race.
