It was a very successful month for many former Ballena Vista Farm residents, their owners/breeders & our clients, as the victors had their photographs taken in the Winners' Circle at racetracks in Southern California and around the country! We offer “Congratulations!” to our clients who are the owners, breeders and/or trainers of these notable equine athletes! Following are just a few of their “Success Stories”!
Henry D. , 4yo gelding by Future Storm, took a well earned victory after stumbling at the start in a one mile race for 3yo's & up on 10/11 at Turf Paradise. The winner was born, raised & trained at BVF & was bred by the Boone Family Trust & managed by long time client Ron Boone.
Twin Fin, 4yo colt by Swiss Yodeler, won a NW2L ALW race going 5½f on 10/7 at Turf Paradise, rewarding this backers with a nice return of $24.20 for a $2 win ticket. His proud owner & trainer is BVF client Dr. Bart Edwards.
Moujane, 4yo filly by Alphabet Soup, became a first time stakes winner on 10/4 as she bested five other F&M 3yo & up in the showery one mile Swingtime Stakes over the Santa Anita turf course. Going gate-to-wire in her usual fashion, the filly, who is owned by long time BVF clients Jane & Sid Field & trained by client Rafael Becerra, earned her fifth victory of 2008, & has one previous stakes placing!
Smoocher , 7yo gelding by Kissin Kris, earned a well deserved victory on 10/4 at Santa Anita coming from well off the pace over a field of twelve to prevail by nearly three lengths at the finish. The hard-knocking gelding spent some time at BVF for “R&R” when he was owned by BVF clients John & Allegra Ernst.
R Lumber , 3yo Cal-Bred gelding by Lord Carson, broke his maiden on 10/6 at Portland Meadows winning a 5½f race over eight rivals. Then, going 6f in gate-to-wire fashion again, he took his second victory of the month, this one on 10/27 at the same venue. He was bred by BVF client Jerome Higman.
Laday Tale , 4yo gelding by Tale of the Cat, earned a win at Golden Gate Fields in 10/4 as he overcame a bad start to prevail by a half-length over six other 3yo's & up going 5½f. Later in the month, on 10/30, he broke clean from the gate & set all the pace to notch a three length victory over seven challengers in a NW1 3M 6f race, also for 3yo's & up.
Runaway Wondercat , 4yo Cal-Bred gelding by Three Wonders, off as the overwhelming favorite over nine other 3yos & up, won a NW3L sprint race at Zia Park on 10/5 over a sloppy dirt course.
Tejano Forever , 5yo Cal-Bred gelding by Avenue of Flags, was fully extended at the wire to prevail in a 5½f race for 3yo's & up at Turf Paradise on 10/31. The winner is out of the unraced mare Selena Forever, who is a half-sister to G1 winner & California champion Joey Franco. All were bred by former BVF client Jerry Frankel.
Tippi Tippi Tai , 3yo filly by Poteen, earned her first win on 10/30 over the one mile turf course at a rainy Gold Gate Fields on 10/30 getting up by a nose at the wire to best nine other F&M 3yo & up. She was raised at BVF & also received her early training lessons here. Congrats to Tony Metaxas, the winner's breeder, owner & long-time BVF client.
Our Stallions Had Several of their Progeny Win Some Nice Races This Month, Highlighted By:
C My Secret , 3yo Cal-Bred gelding by Sea of Secrets , earned his maiden victory going 6½f vs. ten other 3yos & up at Turf Paradise on 10/13. After bobbling at the start, he was able to recover quickly to finish clear by over seven lengths under hand urging down the lane to notch his first win after two previous on-the-board finishes from eight starts.
Whatsamillion , 5yo gelding by Deputy Commander , broke his maiden in gate-to-wire fashion at Fresno on 10/13 setting all the fractions in the one mile race for 3yo's & up. He is owned & trained by BVF client Rafael DeLeon.
All About Beau , 3yo Cal-Bred gelding by Beau Genius, proved best on 10/12 taking a 6f maiden victory at Lethbridge in his seventh start. Previously he had hit the board on three other occasions before earning his maiden win.
Madam Inspector , 2yo filly by Deputy Commander , broke her maiden in just her second time out in a 6f race for 2yo fillies at Woodbine on 10/12. Off the board in her first try, this time the young miss sped to the front early & never looked back on her way to a two length victory over six rivals.
Benny the Waiter , 3yo gelding by Sea of Secrets , won an AOC 6f race on 10/12 at Belmont Park as he lead throughout to notch his third win. Off the board only twice in his 10 starts, he has three seconds & one third place finish for career earnings of over $140K.
Snowdrop, 5yo Cal-Bred mare by Beau Genius , added to her growing list of stakes accomplishments as she finished second in the one mile Chaves County Stakes at Zia Park on 10/4. Born at BVF & a $23K Barretts purchase, she now has five wins in 25 starts along with five seconds & six thirds with earnings of over $212K. The veteran race mare was coming off a win in the West Mesa Handicap.
River Mountain Rd , 8yo gelding by Deputy Commander , won a mile & 70 yards ALW race on 10/14 at Fonner Lakes earning his 14 th career win to go with nine second place finishes & six thirds from an amazing 53 starts! This victory over six other 3yo's & up increased his bankroll to over $349K.
Gordonstwentyfour , 3yo gelding by Sea of Secrets , broke his maiden on 10/14 at Pinnacle Race Course, getting up by a length after a dueling stretch drive down the lane. He had hit the board on one prior occasion before notching his maiden win going 5f on the dirt over five other 3yo's & up.
Partywithlarryz , 4yo Cal-Bred gelding by Beau Genius , became his sire's 79 th stakes horse as he took third in the 6f California Cup Sprint Handicap at Santa Anita on 10/5 in his second stakes effort. From thirteen career starts, he now sports a line of 2-4-4 with earnings over $131K.
Foxy Date , 4yo filly by Sea of Secrets, increased her earnings to over $135K as she won a 4½f ALW race for F&M 3yo & up at Charles Town on 10/17. The victory was her tenth from 36 trips to the post; she also has ten second placings & one third place finish on her racing resume.
Vivi Shoe , 3yo Cal-Bred filly by Beau Genius, won her second consecutive race, this one coming in gate-to-wire fashion in a 6f Starter ALW race on 10/15 at Golden Gate Fields. In her brief three race career, she has two wins & one runner-up finish with earnings topping $24K.
Duty Roster, 4yo gelding by Deputy Commander , won a NW2X AOC 6f race on 10/3 at Pinnacle Race Course coming from off the pace to notch his fifth career victory. He also has five second place finishes & two thirds from a nineteen race career.
Secret Gypsy , 3yo filly by Sea of Secrets , earned a second place finish in the 7f Grade 2 Lexus Raven Run Stakes for 3yo fillies at Keeneland on 10/18, missing only by a neck after leading from the start to the sixteenth pole before yielding to the eventual winner. In her brief six race career, she has raced just twice in ungraded races, winning both of those races. In four graded starts, she's run second, third, fourth & fifth, previously running third in May in the Grade 3 Dogwood Stakes at Churchill Downs. The filly has now earned over $165K with two wins, a second, third & a fourth. She is one of 26 stakes horses sired by Sea of Secrets.
Strident , 7yo horse by Deputy Commander , earned a win in the I C T Ajmann II Fonds-rennen race at Germany's Mulheim Race Course on 10/3.
Itsalittleharsh , 2yo filly by Deputy Commander, broke her maiden in a MSW race for 2yo fillies going a mile & 40 yards on the dirt track at Finger Lakes on 10/18. Off as the overwhelming favorite, the filly came from off the pace to notch her first win in five starts. She also has a second place finish to her credit.
My Main Starr , 3yo filly by Deputy Commander , closed down the stretch in the $50K-added 7f HBPA Charles Town & Ranson Mayor Stakes for F&M 3yo & up at Charles Town on 10/17, recording her third stakes placing in her last four starts. After spending almost all but one of her first ten starts in allowance races, the filly stepped into stakes company for the first time on 6/28 at Delaware Park, & in her four starts since then has run second in two stakes at that track before her third place finish in the Ranson. In between, she took second in an ALW race at Laurel Park. Consecutive wins in ALW company at Charles Town & Delaware Park had earned her an entry into stakes competition. In 16 career starts, she has four wins, six seconds, two thirds, and three fourths, off the board just once for earnings of $146K. She is one of 35 North American stakes horses sired by Deputy Commander in addition to a stakes winner in Japan & champions in two other countries.
Ezel , 4yo gelding by Sea of Secrets, won a state-bred SNW2L mile & 1/16 th ALW race at Hoosier Park on 10/30 as he set the pace early & continued to widen his lead to draw off by six lengths at the wire. The win was his second to go with three other on-the-board finishes.
Runnin Da Fences , 3yo gelding by Deputy Commander , broke his maiden in a 6f race for 3yo's & up Hawthorne Race Course on 10/9. Previously the Keeneland sales grad had notched two third place finishes from four starts prior to finding the winners' circle for the first time. |
